About

Ye Olde Goone Squade can be described in a few, short whispers from pubbies.

History

Ye Olde Goone Squade is the largest and most successful European Goon guild and of course, the largest and most successful on the server. Founded 14 September 2005 – the day the server opened – and experiencing all raiding content since then, we’ve developed a symbiotic relationship with the server we reside on, The Venture Co EU. The name is based on the standard SA Forums game guild/clans name “Goon Squad”, with “Olde English” style modifications to reflect the RP style of the server. We pride ourself for being a largely social guild that excels at raiding and PVP. Our emblem is the Happy Cat – displayed on our tabard and website – is a golden cat on a royal blue background. It is often changed to hideous colours on the whims of the eccentric (implicitly Italian) guild leader.

Ye Olde Goone Squade are a very respected guild in the battlegroup.

Many of the relationships Ye Olde Goone Squade has with other server guilds can be explained by the Moonglade ‘06 event: such as being long-standing allies of The Tide (now disbanded) and traditionally rivals of Redrum Inc. It’s often said that newcomers to the server must choose to side themselves with either Ye Olde Goone Squade, or Redrum Inc – the last two remaining powers of the two Moonglade ‘06 factions.

During 2006-2007, the most well known gimmick perpetrated by Ye Olde Goone Squade and their Horde BFF – The Tide – was the ganking of players of both factions in a way which was very costly to them (either in durability damage, or having to res at a spirit healer) within Blackrock Mountain. This led to a pubbie shitstorm; which in the end led to Blizzard having to immediately lock any threads regarding Ye Olde Goone Squade on the realm forums, and a song being written about the event entitled Come Come to Blackrock Mountain.

Ye Olde Goone Squade takes raiding very seriously; especially at Christmas.

Our motto, “Conquering end-game content without really trying” is a monument to our success as a raiding guild; making incredible progress through content with a laid back attitude with no excessively hardcore demands from members. Our humour is rude and abrasive, as those on the server have become to expect from members of Ye Olde Goone Squade: “Goones.”

It is an important distinction, however, that there is a difference between being an exceptional raider and being a laid back raider. Our raiding core are exceptional players, which is evident through our reliably high ranking both on the server and within the EU. Nevertheless, we have our own particular style which is completely unique (except perhaps to other Goon guilds) that allows us extreme progress through challenging content while still - gosh - enjoying ourselves.

Past Achievements

We’re a guild with very strong roots and we have a history of past achievements. As a PVP guild, Ye Olde Goone Squade had the server first Grand Marshal - the Night Elf Hunter Sjin – along with a plethora of rank 11, rank 12 and rank 13’s. As a raiding guild, Ye Olde Goone Squade have achieved server first or second kills on all raid bosses since Onyxia (Onyxia’s Lair) and Lucifron (Molten Core), including through The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King expansions. This will, without doubt, follow through to Cataclysm and any further expansions.

Past Guild Leaders

Ye Olde Goone Squade has been shaped over the years by those that led it.

From 2005-2006 the YOGS founder, Mordechai, was guild leader, leading us through early vanilla.
From 2006-2007 his successor, Biryon, led the guild through mid-vanilla.
From 2007-2011 our guild leader has since been Mearis, leading us through late vanilla to present day.
